Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815–1852), was an English mathematician and writer β€” widely recognised as the world's first computer programmer.

Working alongside Charles Babbage on his Analytical Engine, Ada saw what no one else did: that a computing machine could go far beyond mere calculation. In her famous 1843 Notes, she wrote the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine, and envisioned computers creating music, art, and science β€” a century before the first electronic computer was built.
